How much weight can a shackle hold?/How do I choose the right shackle size?

The safe working load (WLL) marked on each shackle defines how much weight it can safely hold. Never exceed the WLL rating. Breaking load is usually 6 times the WLL for standard rigging shackles.

To select the correct shackle size:

1. Confirm your maximum working load, and add a proper safety factor.

2. Check the shackle WLL stamp on the body.

3. Match the shackle size to your rope/sling diameter and connection hardware.

4. Consider working environment: corrosion, high temperature or side load will reduce capacity.
